Sulfur pollutes the environment relatively greatly. The air pollution caused by sulfur oxides and hydrogen sulfide, and the water pollution caused by sulfate and hydrogen sulfide are the focus of current environmental protection work. A large amount of coal is burned in the production process of thermal power plants, and coal often contains a certain amount of sulfur, which will release a large amount of SO2 after combustion. If it is not treated, it will cause great harm to the environment. Therefore, desulfurization equipment is generally used in the power industry at present.

At present, there are three main desulfurization methods in the industry: pre-combustion desulfurization, in-combustion desulfurization and post-combustion desulfurization. There are also more than a dozen desulfurization processes. Different processes will use different production systems, and the selection of desulfurization equipment will also be different. At present, the limestone-gypsum desulfurization process is the most widely used desulfurization technology in the world. About 90% of the flue gas desulfurization devices used in thermal power plants in Japan, Germany and the United States use this process. Therefore, we will focus on the desulfurization equipment that this process needs to use.

The basic principle of this process is to add water to limestone powder to make a slurry as an absorbent and pump it into the absorption tower to fully contact and mix with the flue gas. The sulfur dioxide in the flue gas and the calcium carbonate in the slurry and the air blown from the lower part of the tower undergo oxidation reaction to generate Calcium sulfate, when calcium sulfate reaches a certain saturation, it crystallizes to form dihydrate gypsum. The gypsum slurry discharged from the absorption tower is concentrated and dehydrated to make the water content less than 10%, and then sent to the gypsum storage silo by a conveyor for stacking. After warming, it is discharged into the atmosphere by the chimney. Because the absorbent slurry in the absorption tower is repeatedly circulated in contact with the flue gas through the circulating pump, the utilization rate of the absorbent is high, the calcium-sulfur ratio is low, and the desulfurization efficiency can be greater than 95%.
